High court upholds Armed Forces Tribunal ruling on reservist pension

The Punjab and Haryana HC upheld an AFT ruling, ensuring reservist pensioners receive two-thirds of a sepoy's pension, benefitting elderly pensioners.

This two-thirds pattern got disturbed after the implementation of the one rank, one pension (OROP) scheme in 2014 wherein the reservist pension became less than half of what a sepoy of lowest grade was receiving.

Amshipora fake encounter: Tribunal suspends Captain’s life sentence, grants bail

The case relates to the July 18, 2020 encounter at Amshipora in which three men of Rajouri district -- Imtiyaz Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed and Mohammed Ibrar -- were killed and branded as terrorists

The tribunal also granted conditional bail to Captain Bhoopendra Singh and directed him to appear before its principal registrar on the first Monday of every month, starting from January next year (iStock)

Allow jawans who cleared UPSC to quit & join as class I officer: Court to IAF

The Principal Bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal headed by Justice Rajendra Menon also asked the Indian Air Force to change their rules and conditions for granting permission to air warriors for applying for grade A services exams outside the force.

The Armed Forces Tribunal has asked the IAF to let jawans, who have cleared UPSC and state level civil services exams, to leave and join the civil service within two weeks.
