New power connection: Now, Chandigarh to pay 500/day for delay

The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC), on Wednesday, directed the Chandigarh electricity department to release the applied electric connection within a period of 7 days of application completed in all respect instead of 16 days earlier as per prevailing rules for new connections

The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission also applied the condition that “if the Chandigarh electricity department fails to supply electricity within the time limit of 7 days, it will be liable to a penalty not exceeding <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>500 for each day of default.” (HT Photo)

‘Electricity bill no proof that structure is authorised’

The Bombay High Court has stated that electricity bills cannot be considered proof of legitimacy of a building structure. The court made the observation in an effort to curb illegal constructions. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. has agreed to include a statement on its bills and applications clarifying that the bill does not prove authorization or ownership of the premises. The court will continue to hear the matter on January 3.

Now, hassle-free transfer of electricity connections for old property buyers

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and the Registration and Stamp Department have developed a system to streamline the process of transferring electricity connections for buyers of old properties. The new integration will significantly reduce the time and effort required. Buyers can now easily have the electricity connection or bill transferred to their name after the registration of residence.

As per MSEDCL officials, within 60 days of the initiation, the concerned property buyer receives an SMS notification and a web link to pay the processing fee online. (REPRESENTATIVE PIC)

PMC ties up with power discom to widen property tax net in Patna

As per the understanding, SBPDCL is modifying its billing software in a way that the PMC gets access to consumer details and location of the property once they apply for a new electricity connection.

Power fraud: Despite dues, UPPCL gave 685 new connections

Even as energy minister Shrikant Sharma on Monday directed the UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) to launch a statewide drive to disconnect power supply of all the consumers above 5 kw load if they have defaulted for two consecutive months, the corporation has lighted upon hundreds of electricity connections that were issued by its officials in gross violation of rules causing huge revenue loss.
