The Delhi HC has sought response of Ministry of Education on a plea seeking contempt action against the authorities for not taking decision on extension of free education under the Right To Education Act to children of EWS even after attaining 14 years of age in the same school.

“They will be required to submit an undertaking which will state that they will submit the EWS certificate within 15 days of getting admission to the college,” Professor Rasal Singh, a standing committee member, said.

The move comes after the child rights’ body received multiple complaints from parents whose wards qualify for the EWS/DG category, saying several private schools are not enrolling their children, even after their names appeared in the selected lists.

Parents of children studying under the EWS quota said Gyan Bharati School, Saket handed over fee slips to their wards on Tuesday asking them to pay an amount of R22,400 for the April-June quarter.
