<p>Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has come out in support of Deepika Padukone over her JNU visit. Scindia said that Deepika had taken a stand for the truth and said a lot without even uttering a word. He also slammed critics for questioning her decision and added that Deepika had set an example for bravery. Deepika Padukone had visited JNU on 7 January & met injured JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh following which several BJP leaders had attacked the bollywood star.</p>

<p>Congress MP Shashi Tharoor extended his support to students protesting at JNU on Jan 12. Tharoor addressed the gathering on JNU violence. He said, “I speak as a fellow Indian citizen of yours, this is not what our country is about and this should never have been allowed to happen. The worst thing is it reminded me in Nazi Germany in 1930s.” Tharoor added, “First time a religious test has been introduced into the definition of Indian citizenship. Never before in our country has it mattered what your religion was to qualify to be an Indian citizen.”</p>

Mehak, a writer by profession, issued a clarification after the poster sparked controversy. In a video release by her she said that the 'narrative put around the situation is absolutely wrong.' She batted for Kashmir saying, “In the last few months, basic rights of J&K people have been taken away.” She added, “I was quietly standing. I had flowers in my hand. It was meant to be offering peace.”</p>

Union minister Prakash Javadekar blamed Congress, Communists, Aam Aadmi Party and 'other elements' for creating an 'atmosphere of violence' across the country and 'specially in universities'. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi, however, claimed that it was 'cowards' supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party which perpetrated the violence. A day earlier, the Central University witnessed unprecedented violence with masked and armed people running amok and attacking students and teachers alike.</p>

<p>Student protests spread across country after the JNU violence. Several teachers & students were allegedly attacked by masked men inside the JNU campus. The masked men were also visible in videos from inside the campus. Students from different universities gathered near Mumbai's Gateway of India. Students from IIT Bombay carried out a protest condemning the JNU violence. In Delhi, students protested outside the old Delhi Police headquarters at ITO. Protesters claimed the police did not act promptly in stopping the attacks.</p>
