Elgar Parishad to get new name, event to be scaled down this year

Elgar Parishad which is now called Yuvak Jagar (Youth Awakens) Parishad is being held on Saturday at the Sane Guruji Smarak, a venue much smaller in size than the historic Shaniwarwada, the seat of the erstwhile Peshwa dynasty in the centre of the city where the event was held the last time.

Thousands visit Bhima Koregaon to mark anniversary of British-era war

The violence broke out on January 1 last year in Bhima Koregaon and nearby villages during the bicentennial celebration of the war after unidentified people started pelting stones and set vehicles on fire. One person died and at least 40 were injured in the violence, which spilled into Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra as well.

Bhima Koregaon: Two probes, numerous arrests but Dalit anger still simmering

To be sure, there are two police probes. One is conducted by the Pune (Rural) Police and looks into the violence on January 1 in Bhima Koregaon. The other is by the Pune (Urban) Police and is investigating an event held in Pune on December 31, called the Elgaar Parishad, that was organised by Dalit and Left groups.
