Rain lashes Punjab, Haryana; day temp hovers below normal

Rain lashed parts of Punjab and Haryana for a second consecutive day on Saturday, causing day-temperatures to dip in both states. In Punjab, Amritsar registered a day temperature of 14.8 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana recorded 15.4 degrees.

Chandigarh, brace for thunderstorm today

As per IMD officials, the day temperature will get affected on Friday and Saturday if it rains during the day but nights will be relatively warmer. From Sunday, night temperature is also likely to drop while moderate to dense fog is expected in the city in the coming days.

Cyclone Dana responsible for above normal temp in Chandigarh; expect colder days ahead: IMD

IMD Chandigarh director Surender Paul said, “While the cyclone was too far to bring us any rain, it had changed the dominant wind system for the region. While colder northerly winds usually blow this season, it was replaced by warmer winds from the Bay of Bengal.”

Individually, the maximum temperature went up to 39°C on July 29 and minimum temperature went up to 30.3°C on July 30 – both highest since 2021 when the maximum temperature went up to 40.8°C and minimum temperature went up to 30.6°C.
