The best shops in Asia are found in Hong Kong, according to the first edition of Global Blue's "Global Shopper Index." Based on several criteria, the new tool is designed to help tourists find the best shopping spots around the world.

With an overall grade of 68.5/100, Hong Kong beat Kuala Lumpur (65), Shanghai (63), Beijing (60.6) and Singapore (60.1) in the ranking.

With this new tool, Global Blue, a company that specializes in shopping tourism, hopes to help tourists find the shopping destination that suits them best according to their choice of retailer. The Globe Shopper Index is available on the dedicated website Globeshopperindex.com.

The Globe Shopper City Index for the Asia-Pacific region ranks the attractiveness of 25 cities as international shopping destinations. Each grade is based on 38 different criteria, which are bundled into five categories: Shops, Affordability, Convenience, Hotels & transport and Culture & climate. The assessments rely on quantitative (raw numbers such as number of passenger flights per year) and qualitative data (such as the ability for shoppers to haggle over prices).
