Recently, controversy broke out when Ashutosh Gowariker commented on Priyanka Chopra winning the best actress award at IIFA awards, saying, “Priyanka, I love you. But I don’t know how you got the award for best actress when Aishwarya was also nominated in the same category for Jodhaa Akbar.”

However, the television audience couldn’t witness the same since it was edited out from the national broadcast on July 5. When contacted, Sabbas Joseph of Wizcraft confessed, “The remark was not in good taste and seemed biased. Therefore, we avoided broadcasting anything that is partial.” Consequently, they discussed it with the channel and decided to edit it out.

Unfair
But viewers seemed keen to catch a glimpse of the much-hyped controversy and were thus left disappointed. Media professional Urvashi Sarkar says, “There was so much hype around the whole thing. Maybe Ashutosh had it edited. But if he did, he should have stuck to what he said.” Priyanka Chakravarty, a JNU student, says, “This episode would have added spice to the whole function.” Garima Arora, a student, adds, “Maybe Amitabh Bachchan got it deleted.”

Twice bitten?
This is not the first time Gowariker has been in the middle of a controversy. At another awards function, he was involved in a war of words with Sajid Khan. Gowariker did not appreciate Sajid poking fun at others or the fact that he interrupted Gowariker while he made his speech.
