‘At least I danced with Malaika’
Back to the ring and punching bags in Patiala, boxer Akhil Kumar is not in the least disappointed that he didn’t make it back to Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4 as a wild-card entry, shot last Thursday in the city.
“I thought Krushna (Krushna Abhishek) and Yana (Gupta) would make it. Their’s were the best performances of the day. I was shocked when I heard that Ankita (Lokhande) and not Krushna was back on the show,” he says. “I've realised since I came on the show that it's business for the channel and the production team and not entertainment and talent along. They’ll do whatever fetches them more eyeballs and money.”
So who is he putting his bet on to win the dance show? The champion punch-man chooses to be diplomatic: “It’s hard to predict at this stage. I am clueless about which contestant will stay and which ones will go. Even the top scorers are as much in danger as those with low scorers.”
However, he’s thrilled that on his last appearance on the show he gotthe chance to dance with his favourite star, Malaika Arora Khan who described him as a ‘desi boy’ and after his exit, admitted that she missed him.
“Malaika is really sweet. I have always adored her. When she agreed to dance with me, I was on top of the world. And I will never forget Madhuri Dixit whose smile can warm the coldest people on earth,” he asserts.
For the pugilist the show helped him discover some hidden facets of his personality. “I didn’t know that I had a cute smile,” he says with a flash of that cute smile. “Malaika and Madhuri made me believe that I have a great smile that can make someone’s day,” he says. The boxer plans to return to the show for the finale. “That’ll be the last time I will dance in public. I’m comfortable on the dance floor now, given that I was the only non-dancer on the show,” he says.
“I may not be a great dancer but dancing doesn't give me the jitters anymore,” he ends.
