As trouble brews in Rahul Mahajan and Dimpy Ganguly’s marriage, HT City takes a look at the fate of reality TV link ups.Updated: Aug 02, 2010, 00:48 IST
Rahul Mahajan and Dimpy Ganguly
The couple that got married in March this year on the reality TV show Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega shocked everyone on Thursday morning when Ganguly claimed that Mahajan had beat her up. On Saturday, however, Ganguly was back with her husband. Mahajan now claims that Ganguly had “exaggerated under duress.” Whether this marriage will survive or not remains to be seen.
Jake Pavelka and Vienna Giardi
The couple met on the 14th season of the reality show The Bachelor. Though they were “much in love” initially, in June People magazine reported that they had split amid rumours about Giardi cheating on Pavelka. A representative for the couple confirmed that the couple have split, but refused any further information. None of the 14 couples that have met on The Bachelor are together today.
Theirs was one of the first reality TV marriages. Rockwell chose Conger from 50 contestants on the show Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire. 22 million viewers watched the couple get married live on air. Hours after the wedding, trouble started brewing. They took separate rooms on their honeymoon and filed for annulment due to non-consummation.
David Smith and Linda Kazdova
The two met on the show Joe Millionaire in 2003. After meeting a slew of beauties from across the world, David Smith, who was pretending to be a millionaire, chose Czech contestant Kazdova. Interestingly, Kazdova had earlier opted out of the show but was forced back under contract. The two got engaged soon after, but called it quits recently.
Rakhi Sawant and Elesh Parujanwala
One of India’s first reality TV couples, Rakhi Sawant chose Elesh Parujanwala from over 50 hopefuls during the show Rakhi Ka Swayamwar. The couple got engaged in a highly publicised ceremony on air, only to split a few later. Rakhi went on to say that Parujanwala had “used her for publicity” and that his family had emotionally abused her.
Evan Marriot and Zora Andrich
The couple met on the TV show Joe Millionaire in 2003, where Marriot posed as a millionaire in search for love. They split soon after the show, with Marriot claiming that Andrich had “lost her sex appeal”. She later came on record to say that Marriot had not chosen her initially, but the channel airing the show had forced him to choose her.
