Earlier, Shahid Kapoor had been approached to co-judge the show. However, he turned down the offer citing date hassles. It’s rumoured that actor and Bigg Boss’ host Salman Khan wanted to co-host the show but had to opt out due to his work contract with his on-going show.

When asked, Malaika confirms the news and says, “The format of the show is excellent and something I always adored. I lapped up the offer immediately because you rarely get an opportunity to share a platform with Madhuri Dixit, who epitomises dance. Also I had the dates required for the show. Everything worked out beautifully.”

Comparing her experience on other celebrity oriented dance reality shows, India’s most popular celebrity dancer says that the level of competition is different on different shows. “I’ve been on Zara Nachke Dikha’s first season and Nach Baliye too. Those were diverse formats. Jhalak... is a different format. I love its Indian version as well as the western. Here, the emphasis is on searching for a celebrity who can pull off as many dance forms as convincingly as possible,” she adds.

The actor has already shot the promo of the show and will be shooting the first episode of the show this week. It’s rumoured that she will be introduced on the show by her mother-in-law and popular dancer-actor Helen. "I’ve heard that too," she exclaims. "If Helen aunty is introducing me on the show, I’ll consider myself to be a privileged soul. She’s another epitome of dance and elegance."

It has been reported that Malaika is upset for not being approached to perform to Munni badnaam hui for the Sahara India Sports Award, where Sonakshi Sinha performed. “Why would I be upset about that?” asks Malaika. “Sonakshi was the heroine of my film. And as a producer, I have every reason to be happy that she performed on the song. It’s false that I wasn’t approached for the show. The Moranis had asked me but since I was away in the US, I had to turn down the offer.”
