Ahead of the release of comedy film Double Dhamaal, Javed Jaffery is back on the tube. This time though, he’s not judging dancers. Instead, his task is to check as a host, whether parents participating in the show know their kids well enough.

“Very often, we make our kids sing at a party, or dance or even recite lines that they’ve learnt from somewhere. What we don’t realise is that kids may not like what we’ve asked them to do. And we think that it’s their most-loved hobby," explains the comedic actor-dancer and anchor, adding that the idea behind Disney’s show, Mai Ka Laal is to let parents and kids understand each other better.

The show involves fun quizzes, time-based games and question-and-answer rounds for children and their parents. Considering Javed is out of home most of the time on work, does he know every detail of his kids’ lives? “I try and keep myself abreast with as much as I can. But shows like the one I’m anchoring help parents like me know the most basic details about their kids, for instance their best friends, favourite colours, most favourite teachers,” reasons Javed.

So would he participate on a show like this? “No,” he smiles. “I prefer hosting. And someone else will have to step in as an anchor for me to be able to participate.”

A couple of Javed’s colleagues like Sanjay Dutt have little kids. Would he like to invite them on the show? “Of course, but I don’t know if that will happen this season,” says Javed.

“Next season, when the show becomes popular, we can have some special charitable episodes. Even I would participate then. Otherwise, the show is for common parents.”
