Reality in diversity: Despite complaints of an overdose of reality shows on TV, viewers remained hooked to these simply for their diversity, from wedding reality shows (Rakhi Ka Swayamvar, Perfect Bride) to dance shows (Dance India Dance, Dance Premiere League), comedy shows (Chhote Nawab) there was everything.

Social service: The success of Balika Vadhu inspired more shows on social issues (Na Aana Is Des Meri Laado, Bairi Piya, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Na Kijo).

Rustic flavour: In her new found love for the village, even Ekta Kapoor switched from slick Mumbai bungalows to horribly fake looking Vidarbha villages.

Historical plunder: The box also went back in time with shows like Jhansi Ki Rani and Meerabai.

Girls gang up: While women always found favour on TV, little girls in Aapki Antara, Balika Vadhu, Jhansi Ki Rani and Meerabai became the new heartthrobs.
