Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan have been friends for the longest time. Four out of Karan’s six directorials have starred Shah Rukh; the film-maker has also produced some of SRK’s biggest hits. Yet, when another superstar Khan – Salman – appeared on the opening episode of Karan’s chat show this season, there were speculations that Karan and SRK’s equation may have soured. Rubbishing rumours, at the time, Karan told us, “You can never take away the fact that Shah Rukh and I share a 20-year-long professional and personal history…it’s sad that I have to explain my immense closeness to him on a daily basis.”

Now, a plan might already be in motion to quash all rumours. SRK, according to sources, could be Karan’s guest for the season finale of his show. “Last month (December 2013), Karan and the channel officials discussed having Shah Rukh for the finale. Since everyone went on their respective New Year’s break after that, things haven’t gone further, and SRK is yet to be approached. Presently, Karan is busy judging a reality show. There is a long way to go before the finale (around March). But it’s a real possibility,” says a source.

While Karan couldn’t be reached for comment, an insider says, “Discussions (about the finale) are still on. We still have other episodes to shoot.”

In the past, SRK has appeared in the opening episodes of the show — in season one, with Kajol; in season two, with Kajol and Rani Mukerji. In the third edition, he appeared solo. This time, the other Khans — Aamir and Salman — have already appeared on the show. Karan, in an earlier interview to PTI, shrugged off rumours, saying, “Why do people read into everything? …It’s just a show...who starts and ends it, how does it matter?”
