Actor Shikha Swaroop still paints a pretty picture as she returns to TV with Chandrakanta’s sequel.tv Updated: Jun 04, 2011 01:55 IST
When actor Shikha Swaroop made the character of Chandrakanta come alive on the small screen 15 years back, she looked quite pretty. Seen in a number of glamorous dresses, she fit the bill for the role of a young and beautiful princess. And now, as she makes a return to TV with the sequel to the popular mythological serial of the 90’s, Swaroop, 40, still looks as young as her first act as Chandrakanta. Kahani Chandrakanta Ki, directed by Sunil Agnihotri, is the follow up to the fantasy serial Chandrakanta, and is inspired from Babu Devki Nandan Khatri’s novel ‘Chandrakanta Ki Santiti.’ The show will be telecast on Sahara One from June 6 at 8 pm from Monday to Friday.
So, what inspired Swaroop to make a comeback to TV? “Chandrakanta is the role of a lifetime, as the serial had become a cult 15 years back. I remember when the show used to be aired, Mahabharata and Ramayana used to come on TV too. After that, other incarnations of these mythological shows were aired on TV, but there were no 10 other Chandrakantas in the middle,” she says.
Though the serial has taken a time leap and would now tell the story of Chandrakanta’s children, Swaroop still looks the same as she did 15 years back in the show. How does she maintain herself? “It’s all about good eating habits. I visit the gym regularly to keep a check on myself. I also indulge in sports like badminton,” she says.
Swaroop might be there in the serial, but much of the star cast has been changed. In fact, Shahbaz Khan, who starred opposite Swaroop in the show’s first outing, has been replaced by actor Santosh Shukla. “For me, it’s the same. Actors like Mamik and Rajendra Gupta are still there in the show. Some of the crew is the same, and the work culture hasn’t changed as well,” says Swaroop.
