FIFA World Cup: Lionel Messi trains with Argentina squad

about the video

Twice world champions Argentina trained at their base in Bronnitsy, Moscow on Friday ahead of their World Cup Group D opener against Iceland on Saturday (16th June). They will start the match as favourites, but would do well not to underestimate a side that reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 at their first major international tournament. A worry for Jorge Sampaoli’s side could be the height effect. Icelandic footballers, who will compete at their first-ever World Cup, are the tallest at the tournament in Russia, with an average height of 1.85 metres (over 6 feet), which makes them especially strong in aerial duels in defence and attack. It is a weapon that Iceland will use to try to counter the individual brilliance of star forward Lionel Messi and Argentina’s wealth of other attacking options. (Video: SNTV)
