Guj riots: SC upholds clean chit to PM; Rules, ‘Jafri’s plea devoid of merit'

The Supreme Court has confirmed clean chit to PM Modi by dismissing petition of Zakia Jafri, the wife of slain Congress leader Ehsan Jafri, in the 2002 Gujarat riots case. The top court rejected a plea seeking probe into allegations of a larger conspiracy and questioning the clean chit to PM Narendra Modi, who was then Gujarat chief minister, and 63 others. The court upheld Gujarat High Court's decision and called Jafri's plea devoid of merit. "The plea was filed to keep the pot boiling, obviously, for ulterior design. All those involved in such abuse of process need to be in the dock and proceeded with in accordance with law," the judges said. Watch the full report here.
