The Union cabinet took multiple decisions at its meeting on June 1 regarding micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME). Union minister Nitin Gadkari began by listing the important role played by MSMEs in growth of the Indian economy. Then he said that there was further alteration in the definition of MSMEs to boost their output. The government has also decided to set up a fund of funds and a distress fund to help small firms, while also encouraging well-performing MSMEs to get listed on stock markets.
