The Indian National Congress clarified that it would not stake claim to the post of Leader of Opposition in the Lower House of Parliament. Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said that since the party is short of the required number by 2 seats, it won't seek the LoP position, but onus lies on the government to decide if it wants to designate a party as the principal opposition. Congress secured 52 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections 2019.
