Artisans prepare designer earthen lamps for this Deepavali

Potter artisans in Kolkata are having a busy time making designer Diyas or earthen lamps to keep up with the increasing demand, ahead of Deepavali, the Hindu festival of lights. The designer earthen lamps follow a spiralling demand especially during the festival season. Lamps in various shapes and sizes are being made and among these the Shankho Diyas (earthen lamps shaped like a conch), sea shell Diya, Ganesha Diya (earthen lamps shaped like Hindu elephant headed God Ganesha) seem to be quite popular.
