Contribution of direct taxes to GDP has increased: Pranab

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said that the contribution of the direct taxes to the GDP has increased three-fold, from 1.9 per cent to 6.1 percent. Mukherjee said that the contribution of the direct taxes to the GDP was less than two per cent and that the indirect taxes contributed more than the direct taxes when the reforms were undertaken two decades ago.
