Gyaneshwari attack accused killed in encounter

In a major success, security forces killed Umakanta Mahato,a top Maoist leader and prime accused in Gyaneshwari attack that killed at least 71 people,in a gun battle on Friday.Mahato was a leader of the People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA),the pro-Maoist organization that was blamed for the derailment of the Gyaneshwari Express,which then smashed into the path of an oncoming goods train, in Maoist stronghold Jhargram on May 28.Acting on a tip off,a team of security forces met Mahato in a violent encounter near the forest in West Midnapore district of West Bengal in the wee hours of Friday.
