Mumbai Railway Police to get AK-47 rifles
In a move to beef up overall security arrangements for commuters as well as citizens of Mumbai, the central and Maharashtra state governments have endorsed the proposal to arm the police personnel manning the railway stations in the city with AK-47 rifles. Western Railways spokesperson Sharat Chandrayan disclosed this at Mumbai on Tuesday and said 130 AK-47 rifles have been procured. He also said that around 30 policemen would be trained over a period of 15 days at their training academy and the induction will take a month. On their part, Mumbaikars are all praise for this move.
