SC rejects Novartis plea on cancer drug patent

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a plea by Swiss pharma giant Novartis AG for getting its blood cancer drug Glivec patented in India. The patents would be granted only for genuine inventions, cited the Supreme Court, a decision that paves way for Indian companies to manufacture generic drugs for cancer.
