A controversy has broken out over the renovated look of the Jallianwala Bagh memorial in Punjab's Amritsar. The memorial has been built at the location where around 1,000 Indians were massacred by British troops in 1919. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the renovated memorial on August 28, calling it an inspiration for all countrymen. However, Congress and Left leaders slammed installation of a light and sound show, and creation of murals at the entrance. Historian S. Irfan Habib called it 'corporatisation of monuments'.
