Sri Lanka thanks ‘brother’ India, eyes more investment as Jaishankar ‘resets’ bilateral ties

India and Sri Lanka have overcome the fallout of the Chinese spy ship’s 2022 Hambantota visit. Sri Lanka's envoy to India, Milidan Moragoda, said that Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's recent visit to Colombo has "reset" the bilateral ties. Moragoda said that Jaishankar's trip helped the two sides overcome the fallout of the visit of China’s Yuan Wang 5 tracking vessel to Hambantota in 2022. He also thanked India for helping its economy survive amid turmoil. The Modi government gave nearly $4 billion in economic aid to Sri Lanka during last year's economic crisis. India also took the lead in providing guarantees to the IMF to help Sri Lanka access a bailout package.
