Prime Minister Narendra Modi briefly paused his opening remarks at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi after noticing that Chinese President Xi Jinping appeared uncomfortable. Modi turned towards Xi and asked the translator accompanying the Chinese President, “Is it okay?” He repeated the question moments later before Xi nodded in response, following which Modi resumed his speech. The reason for Xi’s apparent discomfort was not immediately clear and may have been related to the microphone or translation. The brief interaction, captured in footage shared by Doordarshan, took place between the 4:40 and 5:11 marks of Modi’s opening remarks. The moment came during Xi’s first visit to India in seven years and added to several recent moments of interaction between the two leaders at the BRICS Summit.
