Russia and Ukraine’s drone arms race has escalated as Ukraine readies to deploy its AI-powered “drone wall” defense system, the first of its kind, developed by French company Atreyd. The DWS-1 system uses coordinated swarms of up to 200 interceptor drones, with AI allowing one operator to manage as many as 100 simultaneously, creating a movable aerial “minefield” capable of intercepting and neutralizing Russian Shahed drones and glide bombs even in GPS- and radio-jammed conditions. The system’s rollout is emphasised, as Russia continues to overwhelm Ukrainian defenses with its own advanced, jam-resistant fiber-optic drones and high-volume attacks, turning the skies over conflict zones into a proving ground for next-gen aerial warfare.
