China hits back at US after Trump aide Pompeo’s tweet on Xinjiang ‘camps’
A fresh war of words broke out between the United States of America and China. It started with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo commenting on a news story about treatment of Uighurs in China’s Xinjiang region. Pompeo said he was ‘appalled by reports of China’s inhumane treatment of Uighurs and the detention of Chinese Muslims in internment camps. If China had nothing to hide, it would allow UN unfettered access to Xinjiang.’ Beijing hit back, accusing the US of trying to interfere in its internal affairs. It also asked Pompeo to ‘take off coloured glasses, discard Cold War mentality’.
