German artist creates cityscapes using sand and gold
A German artist will exhibit his solo show of sand artwork at the HG Contemporary Gallery in New York City from September 7, 2017. Tim Bengel, a Stuttgart-based artist, recently released a video showing his first work of his upcoming series “Monuments”, which has now been viewed 7.8 million times online. The video, also narrated by Bengel, delivers his message for artists to fight against a tendency towards traditionalism and “dream it big” with a vision to do things differently. Bengel invented and developed his own technique of gluing sand and even gold onto a canvas after the idea struck him while he was half asleep one evening, Bengel told Reuters via email.
