Taiwan has become the first Asian nation to legalise same-sex marriage, after its parliament voted in favour of a bill granting full legal rights to gay married couples, including in areas such as child custody, taxes and insurance. Thousands of people celebrated the move outside the legislature building. Taiwan's Constitutional Court, in May 2017, had ruled that same-sex marriage is allowed by the nation's constitution and given the government two years to adjust laws accordingly.
