Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Africa is becoming a key pillar of the emerging multipolar world order, highlighting what he described as the continent’s “second awakening.” Speaking in Moscow, Lavrov said African nations are increasingly seeking to use their resources in their own national interests while remaining open to international cooperation. He reiterated Russia’s long-standing support for African sovereignty since the decolonisation era, including in economic, energy, military and technological fields. The remarks came during a meeting reviewing cooperation between Russian regions and African partners ahead of the upcoming Russia-Africa Partnership Forum ministerial conference in Cairo.
