Turtles arrived at the Ostional coastline of Costa Rica in the annual wildlife phenomenon called 'Arribada'. The event known as 'Arribada' means arrival by sea and involves thousands of turtles coming ashore at once to lay their eggs in the sand. Many turtles returned to the sea without laying eggs this year, The Union of Workers of the Ministry of Environment and Energy reported on its Facebook page. Tourists touched turtles. Stood atop their nests, took pictures with a flash camera, and even placed children on top of turtles to take photos.
