US condemns Sri Lanka attacks, offers help to punish those responsible
The United States on Sunday strongly condemned the Sri Lanka terrorists attacks and confirmed several American citizens were among those killed. It also said it would assist the Lanka government, if needed, to bring those responsible to justice.

“The United States offers our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed and wishes a quick recovery to all who were injured,” secretary of state Mike Pompeo said in a statement.
“While many details of the attacks are still emerging, we can confirm that several US citizens were among those killed. The U.S. Embassy is working tirelessly to provide all possible assistance to the American citizens affected by the attacks and their families.”
US National Security Adviser John Bolton wrote on Twitter, “The US strongly condemns the horrific attacks in Sri Lanka on this Easter holiday. More than 200 have been killed, including Americans. We will assist Sri Lanka in bringing swift justice to those responsible and never relent in the fight against global terrorism.”
President Donald Trump was among the first world leaders to react. “138 people have been killed in Sri Lanka, with more that 600 badly injured, in a terrorist attack on churches and hotels,” he wrote on Twitter. “The United States offers heartfelt condolences to the great people of Sri Lanka. We stand ready to help.” American casualties had not been reported at the time.
The White House followed up with a statement from the press secretary: “The United States condemns in the strongest terms the outrageous terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka that have claimed so many precious lives on this Easter Sunday. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the more than 200 killed and hundreds of others wounded. We stand with the Sri Lankan government and people as they bring to justice the perpetrators of these despicable and senseless acts.”
