Moreno Valley ‘Sage Fire’ map, evacuation updates as blaze burns 9 acres in California

A wildfire, named the Sage Fire, burned approximately 9.1 acres in Moreno Valley, California, on Saturday evening. Evacuation warnings were issued for nearby neighborhoods as the flames spread rapidly through steep terrain.

What we know so far
The fire broke out on Saturday evening near the water tower south of Walmart in Moreno Valley, California. The fire spread quickly through steep terrain and put several structures at risk, according to officials on scene.
Radio traffic indicated that access to the fire was difficult at first. Incident Command requested 10 additional fire engines of any type under immediate need as the fire grew in intensity. The flames were visible on the Box Springs Mountain 1 camera.
At the time, the fire was estimated at 2 to 3 acres and being pushed by the terrain. Due to the threat to both structures and lives, a night-flying helicopter was requested, along with support from the Sheriff’s Department.
Incident Command later requested evacuation warnings for Zones MOE-0502 and MOE-0503 through the Genasys alert system.

The fire grew to 25 acres with a moderate rate of spread, but crews were able to gain access and go direct on the flames. Soon after, Incident Command reported that forward progress had been stopped. The helicopter and several engines were released from the scene.
The final fire size was mapped at 9.1 acres by FIRIS Intel 24. The burn area perimeter can be viewed by turning on the Active Fire Perimeters layer on the Watch Duty map.

As of the latest update, no injuries or structure losses have been reported. Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for mop-up and containment work.
