The accused obtained the mark-sheets to undertake higher studies in medicine and practice across Nepal.
The development comes at a time when a probe is underway in Bihar after several state board toppers were alleged to have indulged in unfair practices.
Codenamed “Operation Quack”, the investigation rounded up doctors practising in 10 districts, including 15 from Kathmandu Valley. Some of the arrested doctors were associated with reputed hospitals.
The doctors were produced on Sunday in a Kathmandu court, which remanded them to police custody for further investigation. As part of an investigation conducted over the past six months, Nepal’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) had earlier arrested 17 doctors with fake credentials in February. Further arrests are likely as CIB officials say there are more than 100 other doctors who could be practising in a similar manner.
