ISLAMABAD: Pakistani starlet Qandeel Baloch’s brother publicly confessed to drugging and strangling her because she was “bringing dishonour” to the Baloch people.

“I proudly admit to murdering Qandeel, and have earned heaven and honour by providing relief to my parents and family,” Waseem Baloch, who was arrested on Saturday, said at a press conference held by the Multan police.
“I decided to murder Qandeel after her videos with Mufti Abdul Qavi went viral on the social media. I was only waiting for the right moment,” he said, referring to the social media starlet’s selfie appearance with a local cleric that had spurred a major controversy in the country.
Baloch, whose real name was Fauzia Azeem, was believed to be in her twenties. She achieved fame through her racy Facebook posts, which were condemned by conservatives but praised by the more liberal among Pakistan’s citizenry. Some of her more controversial acts included volunteering to perform a striptease for the national cricket team, and donning a plunging scarlet dress on Valentine’s Day.
The Internet star was in Multan to visit her parents for Eid, and spend time with her unwell father. “She was on the ground floor while our parents were asleep on the rooftop,” Waseem said. “It was around 10.45 pm when I gave her a tablet... and then killed her.”
Her brother admitted to being a drug addict, but claimed that he was in his senses when he murdered Baloch. “I accept it with pride. Now everybody will know that I provided relief to my parents and brothers, who have been suffering for the last two decades because of her.”
