The accident occurred at the airport of the seaside resort town of Trancoso, in the state of Bahia, police officials told AFP.

The King Air 350 jet that had arrived in Trancoso from Sao Paulo crashed near the runway as it was attempting to land in the middle of a heavy storm.

"Those on board included eight passengers and three crew members," a police official said. "There were no survivors."
Authorities are trying to establish the exact cause of the crash.

According to Agencia Estado, a private news agency, the passengers included US businessman Roger Ian Wright, founder of a Sao Paulo-based investment company, his wife and two children.
