At least 13 personnel of the Nepal Army were killed while trying to douse a fire that broke out in a forest in eastern Nepal on Thursday.

The soldiers were killed while fighting out the forest fire in Manthali area near a government hospital, sources in the Army Headquarters said.The bodies of the soldiers have been recovered from the site near Ramechhap area, they said. The fire broke out at 11 am and threatened to damage the government hospital nearby.
The soldiers belonging to the Sri Jung Battalion of the Nepal Army battled to put out the fire along with army personnel and local people as no fire brigade could reach the remote area.
It took two hours to douse the inferno that claimed the lives of 12 soldiers. Additional troops have been dispatched to the area from Kathmandu for rescue operations, army sources said.
