2 workers killed in gas explosion at Mexican oil company

Two workers were killed and another was injured in a gas explosion at a state-run Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) facility in southeastern Chiapas state.

Two workers were killed and another was injured on Monday in a gas explosion at a state-run Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) facility in southeastern Chiapas state, the company said in a statement.

"The accident killed two Pemex worker and another was injured ... The explosion did not trigger a fire, so no environmental concerns were raised and no closings were needed at the Gas Processing Complex," Pemex said.

The blast occurred at a gas tank "that was not in use, and at present.The cause of the explosion is undetermined," it added.

The last fatal accident at a Pemex facility happened October 21, 2007 when two offshore oil drilling rigs collided killing 21 workers.
