6.2-magnitude quake hits Papua New Guinea: USGS

A 6.2-magnitude quake struck off northeast Papua New Guinea early today, the US Geological Survey said, but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of damage.

A 6.2-magnitude quake struck off northeast Papua New Guinea early today, the US Geological Survey said, but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of damage.

The quake hit at 02:15 am local time 150 kilometres east of Rabaul, in Papua New Guinea's East New Britain province and 885 kilometres northeast of capital Port Moresby at a depth of 85 kilometres.
