At least 30 people were killed in the bombing on Wednesday at Muqdadiya, about 90 kilometres north of Baghdad. This was the latest in an increasing number of violent incidents following the December 15 elections in the strife-torn nation.
Annan called on all parties "to refrain from any action which could undermine Iraq's democratic progress and to come together in a spirit of national unity and reconciliation."
