Attack on US consulate in Peshawar fails

A series of powerful explosions and gunfire rocked the area near the US Consulate in Peshawar on Monday, in what officials described as an attempt to storm the building.

A series of powerful explosions and gunfire rocked the area near the US Consulate in Peshawar on Monday, in what officials described as an attempt to storm the building.

Three blasts were recorded at midday followed by prolonged gunfire. But the attempt was foiled as security forces quickly retaliated. There were three casualties, including a policeman. Four militants were killed.

In another attack in the same North West Frontier Province region, 43 people were killed and around 100 injured as a blast ripped through a rally of ruling Awami National Party in Timergarah Tehsil of Lower Dir.

The Pakistani Taliban claim-ed responsibility for the attacks.
