Friday's explosions occurred in two provinces bordering war-scarred Chechnya.
East of Chechnya, Dagestan Interior Ministry spokesman Mark Tolchinsky said a bomb went off in a park on the town of Derbent overnight and killed a man police believe had planned to use it in an attack.
In Ingushetia, west of Chechnya, Interior Ministry spokeswoman Madina Khadziyeva said a suspected militant was killed by an explosion that ripped through the car he was driving.
Tolchinsky also said a suspected militant and the woman he lived with were killed by police in Dagestan on Thursday evening.
