British PM vows to bolster 'special relationship' with Obama

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown vowed to strengthen the "special relationship" between London and Washington with new President Barack Obama.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown vowed on Wednesday to strengthen the "special relationship" between London and Washington with new President Barack Obama.

Speaking at his weekly questions session in parliament's lower House of Commons, Brown said he wanted to convey his best wishes to Obama at the start of his presidency.

"I can assure the whole House we will maintain and strengthen our special relationship between our two countries," he told lawmakers.

"The importance that President Obama places on urgent action on the economic recovery, on environmental stewardship and that citizenship carries responsibilities as well as rights will have a resonance in every part of the world."
