A Spanish official says a bus carrying Dutch students on a field trip has flipped over on a highway in northeastern Spain, killing one person and injuring around 10.

The official with the Catalonia regional police force says the bus was carrying 60 people when it veered off a highway on Monday in Gerona province on the border with France and turned over. Some of the injured are in serious condition, the official said. The cause of the accident near the town of Bascara was not immediately known.

The students are in their teens. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with department rules.
