Greece's Fire Service says six water-dropping planes and four helicopters are being used on the island of Samos, in the eastern Aegean Sea.

The agency says fire crews were being flown to Samos on Wednesday to help battle the blaze outside the main town of Vathy, in the eastern part of the island.

The fire is not posing an immediate threat to homes, according to Deputy Fire Chief Apostolos Ierokostas.
