First swine flu case confirmed in Romania

Romania on Wednesday announced its first confirmed swine flu case: a 30-year-old woman who returned from the United States. The woman had returned from New York on May 23 with her two young children. All three were being kept under observation in hospital.

Romania on Wednesday announced its first confirmed swine flu case: a 30-year-old woman who returned from the United States.

"We have identified the first case of A(H1N1) flu and this has been confirmed by the laboratory at the Cantacuzino Institute in Bucharest," Health Minister Ioan Bazac told reporters.

"The presence of this virus is 99-per cent certain," he said, adding that further tests would be conducted at a reference laboratory in London.

The woman had returned from New York on May 23 with her two young children. All three were being kept under observation in hospital.
