The attack was carried out by unidentified assailants who also stole the guard's submachine gun in the attack late Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported in a brief dispatch, citing police, but giving no further details.

It was unclear if the garrison belonged to the People's Liberation Army or another unit such as the paramilitary People's Armed Police.
