Gunmen kidnap 10 civilians travelling in a minibus in the province of Diyala on Wednesday, says a provincial police source.

Gunmen kidnapped 10 civilians travelling in a minibus in the province of Diyala on Wednesday, a provincial police source said.

"Unknown gunmen stopped a minibus, at a fake checkpoint, in the al-Ghalbiyah area, 40 km northeast of Baghdad, and kidnapped nine passengers and their driver," the source told Xinhua.

The travellers were on their way from Kirkuk to Baghdad passing through the Diyala province, the source said.

Diyala province, which stretches from the eastern edges of Baghdad to the Iranian border to the east, has been the hot bed of insurgency and sectarian violence since 2003.
